Alysa

For this picture I decided to revisit the location where my favorite high school photography pictures were taken. I spent about an hour one night walking around the fountain at Bradley Fair with a tripod shooting from different angles. I liked this photo best because of the crispness of the streetlights in the background, the contrast of the dark sky and the light water, and especially the ice visible on the edge of the fountain, which was only on that one particular side because of the direction the wind was blowing.

Alysa - Favorite Photo

Sorry for the delay on the favorite photo, my scanner wouldn't work so I had to resort to taking a picture of the original print, so please excuse the poor quality. This is a picture from my AP photography class my senior year of high school. It's a night photography, and I believe for this one I left the shutter open for about 45 seconds to get the right amount of light and to capture the movement of the water in the fountain and the brilliant light of the Christmas tree.
In this photo my mother was laying with my dog sleeping and someone said something to her funny, my dog was not impressed because she woke him up. I picked this one because I love how he is looking at her like, "really? Come on I was sleeping!"

Nicole

I took this photo while sledding this weekend. I chose this photo because I like the fun-filled emotion that is expressed on the children's faces. It was quite difficult to capture the image considering the speed at which my subject was moving, and my inexperience with adjusting the settings on my camera to accommodate for this. I set my camera to shoot continuously and prayed that I achieved a good shot in the end.

This is a picture of my mom's famous okra. I took this using the daylight setting on my camera.

This picture was taken outside of my apartment while it was snowing and i
just thought it was a cool picture because of the way the snow covered
everything.

Sundee Dunn

I took this picture at high park in Derby.
I am just trying to get a feel for shooting pictures manually.

Christina

I was messing around with the features of my camera and came up with this. I like that it captured the shadow on the brick and a little bit of the flame.

Nap time

This is my spoiled rotten cat doing what she does best, sleeping in the sunlight. My camera has a super close setting that I was toying around with and was surprised at the amount of detail that came out. What a hard life!!

Austin

I think this photo turned out pretty well. I like the light comin through the trees and i like the shadows that its creating. I also increased the shutter speed and decreased the amount of light comin in and it captured the sun really well.

Ryan

I messed around a little with the aperture to get the sun bright and the building visable. I think this turned out well.

I liked the way this shot turned out. I wish I wouldn't have done it in B&W though.

Kyle

This is a pic of my shuffleboard table. I think it is interesting to see the sand on top of the board and the paths created by the other pucks.

Taken at El Dorado Lake. I just thought it was a very cool picture. I realize that the date says new year's of 2008, but its wrong.

I was messing around with the aperture and shutter speed of my camera, and I thought this came out pretty cool.

Veronica - week 1

I'm going to be gone all weekend, so I guess I'll post first. Lame.

Resource

Since I'm a baby in the photog world, I find the most difficult part of shooting for me right now is differentiating between quality work and crappy pictures.
So, I spent some time at Center Gallery looking at good photos. It helped.

Austin's Favorite Photo

This is one of my favorite photos of me. This is a photo of a band I used to be in called Yesterday's Hero. I didn't choose this photo because of its overall quality, but I chose it because it brings back so many good memories of one of the happiest times of my life.

Favorite Photo

I took this picture while I was studying abroad in London last summer. My camera was overrun with pics of Big Ben but this was one of my favorites. I love how it shows the beauty and majesty of one of the oldest buildings in my favorite city.

Maria Mannani-favorite photo

This is my favorite photo because it was the last time I was able to spend time with my three best friends before they moved to different states.

John Fav Pic

This is a picture i took of my favorite band Red while at a concert in the mosh pit. It is not the best picture but it is my favorite

Goat

This is my dog Goat. There's not really much else to say to explain it. The picture speaks for him.

Favorite Photo

This is my favorite photo of me. I am in Hollywood, in front of the Chinese Theater, with my hands in Marilyn Monroe's hand prints. It's not the best picture, but the memory it caught is one of my favorites.

passing on tradition

I took this photo of a girl who is part Indian. The outfit was her grandmothers along with the tribal stick. I love this one because it shows her grandmother's history with the youthful hands of the next generation carrying on the traditions of her heritage.

Favorite photo

I took this photo a couple of years ago at the Wichita Botanical Gardens using my Cannon camera. It is of my niece, Trinity, who now lives in Texas so it is one of my favorite photos I have of her. I couldn't get the photo to rotate so you'll have to look at it sideways.

Favorite Photo — Amy

I shot this picture from my hospital bed with my Canon Rebel about two seconds after my husband put Kyle's little brother in his arms for the first time. Kyle is smiling up at Dad here. Their relationship is so sweet and unexplainable. I'm so glad I had my Rebel there and not my point and shoot or I would never have caught this moment or that proud smile.

Clint's favorite picture!

This is my favorite picture because I have so many memories in front of this very cross. It was taken at Camp Galilee in Arkansas on the banks of the beautiful Bull Shoals Lake. It reminds me of God's glory.

My fav pic

I took this photo while on my first trip to St. Paul, MN. I used a point and shoot camera that was on a "winter" setting. The color and blur of the headlights behind makes it just gorgeous.

Veronica's favorite photo

This is me rappelling off Cessna stadium in a rock climbing class last spring. I think I'm laughing because I was deathly afraid of heights at that time and I had only been to class 4 times prior to this.

Favorite Picture

I took this picture at the Sedgwick County Zoo. I like this picture because I think it looks almost surreal, and nothing like any of the others pictures I have ever captured. This piece, I believe, has the potential to be mistaken as professional work.

Favorite Pic

This picture is of my grandfather. He died before I was born. I love this picture.

Here we go

Welcome to the your Intro to Photojournalism class in The Elliott School of Communication at WSU. I hope you like adventures because this will be one.

This blog will serve as our classroom away from Elliott Hall. Since we're meeting only once a week, you should consider the blog your second class meeting each week. You'll post three things here:

1. You will post your best picture each week.
2. You should comment on several of your classmates' pictures each week.
3. You will post at least five good online resources you discover throughout the semester.

I will also use the blog as a place to post online resources. Since you do not have an official textbook for the class, I expect you to check them out and read them as I ask you to. I hope you find the blog useful in sharing, giving and receiving feedback, finding information and collaborating with the generous experts who have agreed to participate here, too.
