High School Contest

these two photos I was trying to capture the students outside of the testing. What they did to prep themselves for test in different ways (last min cramming vs hanging out and getting their mind off of it)

This was of Carissa Nellson during a portion of one of the journalism test. I know the angle is nothing great but I liked how you could see the concentration and confusion most of us have all felt during a test.

Campus Activity

Trying to take interesting pictures during a meeting is very hard! These were taken during the Lamda Pi Eta meeting on Thursday.

A student interested in graduate school listens to Samuel Nze, a communication graduate student, tell about his research and what grad school has done for him during the Lamda Pi Eta Cookies and Conversation.
Lamda Pi Eta president Ozi Utah listens intently to speakers as they tell interested students the benefits of graduate school and the club.
I was a bad reporter and didn't get this guys info :(

Campus event

I took these at the Political Science Club's panel discussion on Religion and the State. I've decided that photographing people is hard. If you go to an event and start taking pictures of people, they give you a pretty awkward reaction. And I can never take photos of my sorority sisters because every time I get out my camera their radar goes off and they immediately pose and smile.

This collection of photos is from a visit to Antarctica. I especially like the photos of the penguins. The photographer gets many different angles of the penguins and the compositions come across as being very professional.

Maria Mannani-Action shot at WSU

This was the first person I photographed that I asked a little bit about themselves after I took their photo.
This is Rob Below, a freshmen studying science at WSU.
I chose this photo because he looked engaged in what he was working on, and I liked this angle of the photo.
Check out the iTunes store and search Photography in the podcasts section. This is a great resource. There's tons of free videos on all subjects of Photography.

Pete Souza — White House photographer

Veronica's post absolutely counts! It's a great collection of photos. Pete Souza, the official White House photographer, has Kansas connections — he's a graduate of Kansas State University (go CATS!). Here's a story about Souza from when he was named Obama's official photographer.

Maria Mannani-Photo Resource

I thought this persons collection of photos was very interesting and artistic. I think many of these photos are high quality. They seem to be shot at a variety of angles. The picture of the yellow plaid umbrella is my favorite, because of the colors and interesting angle.

On Campus

I tried to take these pictures from an angle other than eye level like Travis suggested in class.

I went on a trail ride this past week/weekend in TX and I tried to get different shots of everything. The first one I was trying to fallow Travis advice and get low. I like the view it gave me because not many people get low and close to a horse. The Second one I liked because it captures the lady's life by showing the history in her horses face, with the old scares and scrapes on the horse and showing her with her grey hair and and the horse trailer showing her life style. The thing I would have liked more is if I would have got her face and walking toward me. The third one would have been better if it was a different angle I had one shooting for above and really showing his old work hands but it would not upload it just kept freezing when I tried to use it so I said forget it. I shot all people I did not know so I could get more experience shooting strangers.

Austin - 2 Photos

Well, I know you guys are getting tired of seeing Ryan in my pictures and I apologize for that. Anyway, I like the first picture because of the angle i took it from. Last week, Travis was telling us to get high and get low in order to make the picture more interesting by giving viewers a perspective they're not used to seeing. I like the first picture because I think the angle makes it very appealing and interesting to the eye. I also like the sun in the picture and the lens flare I captured. For the second picture, I decided to get an action shot. I like how the water coming out his mouth is blurry but he is not. I also like the lighting in this picture because we were standing under an orange light and it gives it a nice vibe.

I am so happy with this picture.

Alysa

Although I know the composition and quality of these photos aren't fantastic (they were taken on my iPhone!) they were by far my favorites because of the content. The pictures are of my nephew and my brand new niece. The bottom picture is of the first time they met, and he was very cautious of her. The other picture was taken today when he was much more comfortable with her and was really exploring her for the first time.

Kyle

I took the first picture on my way home from Hutchinson. All the "7's" are street lights. I just tried to shake the camera a bit to cause the lights to streak. The second picture is of the sun starting to set on the way to Hutch.

I'm a little behind as I was sick last week, but it looks like everyone has posted their two best of the week... and I'm sorry folks, this is all I got for you. My experimenting continues....
1. Shari chats while we make Hamantaschen.
2. at an 80s skating party.

This is a couple of picturesof a BMW Z4 is a parking lot from a couple of different angles.

Two photos

I was trying to get high and low like Travis was saying and trying to stop some of the motion.

2 Photos, same subject

This weekend was kind of crazy for me. The first photo was taken in my car the first day I got it. I left the shutter open and I like the effect the lights have. The second picture was Saturday night after I wrecked my car. The quality isn't very good because it was really dark, but I like the before-and-after feel of the photos together.

Since Borders is usually crawling with activity, I decided to go there to get some different shots. There were a few that I really liked, but I decided to go with these.

I tried to get out and take some pictures of the frozen trees this weekend. I wasn't really impressed with how they turned out so I decided to instead include some photos that I had taken of trees after we had experienced some freezing fog this winter. I think I captured a much cooler effect in these pictures.

night shots

Shutter was open for 30 seconds.

Action

I'm a week behind, but here's my action shot. My family went sledding behind a truck in a field. I like this picture because you can tell how much fun they're having, but they also look scared.

Maria Mannani-still shot

This was one of the last photos I took and it's one of my favorites. I liked the brightness and the colors in the chair.
This was one of the first photos I took. I don't like it as much, because it seems too dark and a little out of focus.

Ping-Pong

My mom and dad helped me out with some action shots. The composition in these are horrible and there is a ton of background distraction, but I was more focused on trying different settings on my P&S camera. I did try to crop the photos to follow the 1/3 rule.

Composition Tips

I know Travis talked a lot about things that I hadn't really considered when shooting, things that weren't really obvious to me as they were to him. I think that I, as well as many others, need more experience with composition to fully understand and recognize the concepts that Travis stressed to us. And so, I found this website on composition tips to share with you.

Action

Here's a picture I took at the Abandon Kansas show in Manhappenin' on Thursday. Its their bassist. I did no photoshop to this but I really like how the dark blue in his shirt and the red in his bass turned to grey to give it a pseudo black and white effect.

And i got a fisheye lens so I played around with that.
